Portrait Painting in Watercolour

The date of this has changed and will now be held on October 21st 2017

   £75 (early bird) – £85

There is no denying that this is a challenging subject in a difficult medium, but you will be guided at every stage and the process will be made much simpler for you, in fact you will be amazed at what you can do.

Beginning with a few warm up sketches and exercises in proportions of the face and proper application of the paint, you will finish the day with a completed watercolour portrait.

Bring your own watercolour paints, brushes and watercolour paper (must be minimum A3 size but preferably bigger).

Lunch is provided, let us know if you have any special dietary requirements.

Beginners Guide to Drawing and Painting

Saturday 7th October  £70 (early bird) – £80

An introduction to drawing and painting for the absolute beginner. No experience necessary. You will be shown simple drawing techniques in the morning followed by an introduction to watercolour painting. After your delicious home-cooked lunch you will be shown how to paint with acrylics on canvas or board.

All your materials are provided and you will be given advice throughout the day on the best medium for you and materials for you to buy if you decide you want to take it further.

This is the perfect day for you if you are contemplating having a go at art, and why wouldn’t you. There is so much research out there telling us that it makes us happier, cleverer and live longer.

A full day’s painting with comprehensive instruction on colour theory, mixing paint, use of a limited colour pallette and everything you need to know to make your paintings sing! We will produce two paintings during the day, a watercolour in the morning and acrylics in the afternoon. You will learn the need for different approaches to applying colour with different media. Suitable for beginners to intermediates.

Coffee and tea breaks and a delicious home made lunch are included. Bring your own paints (of any medium) and brushes if you have them. We have a large, fully equipped studio with easels.

Into Abstraction – mono printing, Half Day

18th November £32 (early bird) – £40

10.30am till 1.30pm

An introduction to printmaking for the absolute beginner using equipment and materials you can use at home. No experience necessary. The emphasis will be on abstract mark-making and collage to create beautiful, simple abstracts. We will also experiment with cyanotypes and gel printing.

These can be framed or made into very special cards (is it too early to mention Christmas?). If you are smitten with the process you can buy the equipment and materials you need for around £10.

Portrait Drawing – the basics in half a day

2nd December £37 (early bird) – £45

10.30 am till 1.30 pm

Working from a model we will begin with some short poses and exercises designed to avoid the major pitfalls and techniques to get the best results when drawing a person.

Over the three hours we will look at basic proportion and the anatomy of the skull. We will then move on to a reductive drawing process using charcoal to get a beautiful, tonal drawing. You will be guided at every step in a small group so even those with little confidence will feel supported.
