10.30am till 1.30pm

Suitable for anyone of any ability

An introduction to printmaking for the absolute beginner using equipment and materials you can use at home. No experience necessary. The emphasis will be on abstract mark-making and collage to create beautiful, simple abstracts. We will also experiment with cyanotypes and gel printing.

These can be framed or made into very special cards (is it too early to mention Christmas?). If you are smitten with the process you can buy the equipment and materials you need for around £10.

Portrait Drawing – the basics in half a day

2nd December £37 (early bird) or £45

10.30 am till 1.30 pm

Working from a model we will begin with some short poses and exercises designed to avoid the major pitfalls and techniques to get the best results when drawing a person.

Over the three hours we will look at basic proportion and the anatomy of the skull. We will then move on to a reductive drawing process using charcoal to get a beautiful, tonal drawing. You will be guided at every step in a small group so even those with little confidence will feel supported.

The word chiaroscuro is Italian for light and shadow. It’s one of the classic techniques used in the works of artists like Rembrandt, Da Vinci, and Caravaggio. It refers to the use of light and shadow to create the illusion of light from a specific source shining on the figures and objects in the painting. As the light is beginning to return to Scotland, what better way to celebrate.
